Animating the Universe
Dec 6th, 2007 by Matt
How do you explain to someone just how big the universe is? Well, you could simply tell them that the universe is very large, possibly infinite, being at least 93 billion light years across. But what does that really mean? Can someone easily process this information and truly understand its implications? Can anyone really be moved by this realization?
Perhaps a better way to explain it is visually. Charles and Ray Eames did so quite famously in 1977 with their short film Powers of ten.
The Simpsons created a send up to this film as one of their show openers.

Animaniacs also did a great piece about the Universe. (I think I may have posted this here before…)
And finally I stumbled across a nice 3-D animation that also describes the vastness of the Universe.

The size of our universe is truly Awesome. In every sense of the word. And the task of animating it is a daunting one indeed. Actually I think Homer said it best: WOW.

It’s bizarre, because there are objects beyond Earths sight that exist, but we cannot see them because the light has yet to reached us. So every day, our Universe gets a little bit bigger. If only humans could travel further out than the Moon.
Your assuming we got to the moon to begin with.
wink wink.
